Meder's camp officially has no name and no sign. You find it by asking locals for the owner, a herder who works yaks in the Kok-Kiya valley year-round and stays on when the tourists have gone — which is the most reliable thing about it. Accommodation is basic in the true sense: hot meals, homemade bread, no hot shower, no signal and no wi-fi. Horse riding across the rivers and hills is the activity, and Kel-Suu lake is the reason you came. Altitude is genuinely disputed between sources, at 3,021 m on one account and 3,500 m on another, so plan for the higher figure and acclimatise. Practicalities. Getting in means five to eight hours each way from Naryn on rough track in a high-clearance 4x4 with a driver who knows the route, including a river crossing that rain can make impassable. The valley is a restricted border zone and a permit is mandatory; CBT Naryn is the clearest source at about EUR 30 per person for the Naryn region with roughly a week's lead time, though quoted prices and timings vary widely between agencies, so allow two weeks. The stamped original permit and your original passport are checked at the gate. Note too that Kel-Suu camps generally take walk-ups rather than reservations, precisely because there is no connectivity to book through — the accepted approach is to arrive and ask.

Budget two weeks and confirm with CBT Naryn. Original stamped paper permit plus original passport are checked at the checkpoint; copies are refused and the driver must be covered.
