This is the cheap bed at Kel-Suu, and useful precisely for that. Eight units totalling around twenty-one beds, split between two five-bed single-sex dorms, a four-bed room, a small double and a further five-bed room — the only dorm accommodation we found in the valley, which makes it the obvious choice for solo travellers who would rather not pay for a whole yurt. Heating is provided in all rooms, there are shared bathroom facilities with towels, a shower, and a continental breakfast served between 8 and 10. Payment is cash only and pets are not allowed. There is no front desk, so you must contact the host in advance to arrange being met; check-in is from 2pm but any-time arrival can be agreed, which is sensible given how often the drive in overruns. Two things to disregard on the online listings: the advertised wi-fi speed of over 500 Mbps, which is not a credible specification for an off-grid camp at this altitude and is almost certainly platform template data, and the claim that the property is a minute's walk from the Tien Shan mountains, which is filler. Access is the same hard reality as the rest of the valley — five to eight hours each way from Naryn by 4x4, a river crossing that rain can close, and a mandatory border-zone permit needing roughly two weeks through CBT Naryn, with the stamped original and your passport checked at the gate.
Highlights
