About Golden Moon Yurt Camp

Golden Moon is the first camp you meet as the track drops into the Kel-Suu valley, and visitors rate its outlook to the southern mountains as the best of the camps along here. Four yurts, backed by a guest house with four rooms sleeping four apiece and a newer block of eleven twins, so there is more capacity than the yurt count suggests. Breakfast and dinner come with the rate and the cooking is well regarded, with vegetarian options available. At 3,320 m the nights are cold whatever the date. Understand what getting here involves, because it is the hard part. Kel-Suu is under 100 km from Naryn but five to eight hours each way, almost all of it rough track, and you need a high-clearance 4x4 with a driver who knows the route; the final approach includes a river crossing that rain can close. The whole valley sits inside a restricted border zone, so a permit is mandatory — CBT Naryn is the most citable source at around EUR 30 per person for the Naryn region with about a week's lead time, but published prices and timings vary wildly between agencies, so allow two weeks. The original stamped paper permit plus your original passport are checked at the gate and copies are refused; your driver needs cover too. There is no phone signal, no wi-fi and no hot shower. The price above is a visitor's note from 2022, so treat it as a floor.

Highlights

Getting there

The first camp you reach descending into the Kel-Suu valley. Under 100 km from Naryn but 5-8 hours each way, almost entirely rough track once the asphalt ends; a high-clearance 4x4 with an experienced local driver is required, and there is a river crossing on the final approach that can be impassable after rain. A border-zone permit is required: CBT Naryn quotes about EUR 30 per person for Naryn region with roughly a week's lead time (two working days express), while other agencies quote anywhere from EUR 20 to US$120 and 2-10 working days. Budget two weeks and confirm directly with CBT Naryn. The original stamped paper permit and your original passport are checked at the valley checkpoint; copies and screenshots are refused, and your driver must be covered too.
