From Bishkek you drive through the pastoral Chon-Kemin valley to the lake, tracing its shores past the red rock of Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon and the Barskoon waterfalls to Karakol, with its wooden cathedral, Dungan food and Sunday animal market. There's time to swim, walk the Jeti-Ögüz red cliffs and soak in the setting, sleeping in comfortable guesthouses. We handle the driver-guide, the route and the meals, keep the group small, and can add a yurt night or a horse ride on request.

   Day 3 — Karakol & Jeti-Ögüz

   Karakol's sights and the Jeti-Ögüz red cliffs; overnight Karakol.

   Day 4 — Return to Bishkek

   Drive back along the northern shore to Bishkek.
