Overview

South of Osh, where the Tian Shan meets the Pamirs, the Alay is Kyrgyzstan's great undiscovered trekking country — broad green valleys, glacial rivers and the huge white pyramid of Lenin Peak always on the horizon. This eight-day trek links shepherd camps and high meadows in the Alay and Trans-Alay ranges, far from the Karakol crowds, sleeping in tents and the occasional homestay. It is a proper trek — long days at altitude — but a rewarding one, supported by our guide, cook and pack animals. We give you the honest difficulty grade up front and keep the groups small.

Itinerary

1. 1
   Day 1 — Osh

   Arrival, briefing and gear check in Osh; the bazaar and Sulaiman-Too.

2. 2
   Days 2–3 — Into the Alay

   Transfer south and begin trekking into the Alay valleys; tent camps on the jailoo.

3. 3
   Days 4–6 — High Alay & Trans-Alay

   The heart of the trek — high meadows, passes and glacial rivers beneath Lenin Peak.

4. 4
   Day 7 — Descent

   Trek out to the roadhead; homestay or camp.

5. 5
   Day 8 — Return to Osh

   Drive back to Osh.
