You start at a fifteenth-century stone caravanserai in a side gorge off the Torugart road and ride up to 4,025 m — the highest pass on any route in this dataset — then drop to Chatyr-Köl, a shallow, enormous lake sitting at 3,500 m against the Chinese frontier.
