Everything else in this dataset is high, bare and cold. Sary-Chelek is the opposite: a biosphere reserve in the Jalal-Abad region where the maximum altitude is 2,659 m and the minimum is 1,140 m, and where you ride through silver fir, raspberry thickets and the walnut forest that this corner of Kyrgyzstan is famous for. Four days and fifty-nine kilometres in a loop from Kyzyl-Köl, linking Kara-Kamysh lake, the north shore of Sary-Chelek itself and Iri-Köl, over two modest passes at 2,651 and 2,611 m. Altitude sickness is simply not a factor here, which makes it the option for anyone who reacts badly to height — but do not mistake it for easy: five to seven hours in the saddle on four consecutive days is a real ask, with 2,941 m of cumulative ascent. All three nights are camping in tents. Tents and mats are supplied but sleeping bags are not, so bring or rent one. Reserve entrance tickets are included. One honest note for planning: this is a long drive from anywhere else in this dataset — it does not pair with the Alay despite both being in the south, and there is no yurt-camp area in our directory that sits nearby. Treat it as a standalone trip built around Sary-Chelek itself. A shorter and much cheaper three-day version over overlapping ground runs from a local operator at US$330 a head.
