The four-day loop is the three-day classic with the best day added. Instead of turning straight round at the lake, you spend day three riding the shoreline from Tuz-Ashuu to the Ozbek-Ashuu pasture — sixteen easy kilometres and a free afternoon — before crossing the Ozbek-Ashuu pass back to Kyzart on day four. That extra day is the difference between seeing Song-Köl and actually being there: time to walk to the water, watch the herds come in, and sit through an evening without packing for the morning. Because it returns over a different pass it is a true loop rather than an out-and-back. Total distance is around 80 km with a high point of 3,450 m and about 1,600 m of cumulative climbing. No riding experience is needed and instruction is given on day one. Practical points worth planning for. Access to Kyzart is by 4x4 from Kyzart, Kochkor or Naryn, three to four hours on rough tracks with no public transport to the trailhead. Some operators require the riding programme to be booked at least seven days ahead. Cards are not accepted anywhere on the route. Summer daytime temperatures run 5-18°C and nights at the yurt camps sit between 3 and 8°C — colder when the weather turns, and snow on the passes is possible in any month.
