It's a challenging route that crosses a pass above 3,800 m, usually done over two to three days. You don't need technical skills, but good hill fitness and some acclimatisation help a lot, and snow can make the pass harder in early summer.

You can walk some marked valleys independently, but for multi-day treks over high passes we recommend a local guide. Trails are lightly signed, weather changes quickly, and a guide adds safety and local knowledge.

The main season runs from mid-June to mid-September. Outside this window, high passes may be snowbound and pasture camps closed. Lower valley walks can be enjoyable from May into October.

Yes. The Ala-Köl route is often combined with the Altyn-Arashan hot springs, making a natural rest point. We can build a trek that ends or overnights at the springs.
